
General Secretariat for Education and Science
Provides technical and legal support in the areas of Education, Science and Innovation;
Manage human resources;
Prepares, monitors and manages the budgets of the offices of the members of the Government, the SGEC (General Secretariat for Economic Affairs) and the bodies and structures whose support is provided directly by the SGEC;
It ensures the functions of the Ministerial Purchasing Unit and the Asset Management Unit;
It preserves and values the historical heritage of education and science;
It ensures information, communication and public relations activities, as well as planning and coordinating the implementation of measures aimed at promoting innovation and quality policy;
Coordinates activities at the international level.

General Directorate of School Administration
It ensures the implementation of strategic management and human resources development policies for Education within public educational structures located in the continental national territory, without prejudice to the powers attributed to local authorities and school management and administration bodies, as well as national educational structures located abroad, aiming at the promotion of the Portuguese language and culture, and monitors and decides on matters related to professional qualifications and the exercise of teaching functions in private, cooperative and solidarity-based educational establishments.

General Directorate of School Establishments
It promotes the monitoring of school clusters and non-clustered schools in the development of their autonomy, as well as ensuring the regional implementation of administrative measures and the exercise of peripheral competences related to the attributions of the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (MECI), promoting their harmonization and standardization of procedures;
Designs, organizes, and implements measures for risk prevention, security, and violence control in schools.

Institute for Financial Management of Education, IP.
It ensures the programming, financial management, and strategic and operational planning of the MECI;
It manages the respective budget programs, as well as the overall evaluation of the implementation of policies and the results obtained by the education system, and the creation and proper functioning of the Integrated Education Information System (SIIE), in coordination with the other services and bodies of the aforementioned government areas.
